Women, Planting Seeds of Change in Agriculture 🌱

Women are key players in the food system, yet they often lack the recognition and resources they need.

In the Mediterranean region, women contribute significantly to greening food systems. From producers and innovators to decision-makers, they are essential in driving sustainable practices. Despite structural barriers, their leadership ensures resilience and inclusivity. However, women's contributions are often undervalued, particularly due to unpaid agricultural work and involvement in informal or shadow agri-food labour market. Recognizing and supporting their role is vital for a greener future.

In Europe, women are transforming agriculture through innovative practices that prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship. As key players in the green transition, they’re driving the adoption of agroecological methods, fostering biodiversity, and reducing agriculture's carbon footprint. Yet, they face challenges in accessing resources and decision-making spaces. Empowering women is essential for creating a more resilient and sustainable food system.
